A worm drive creates

  • a drive in 2 planes and transmits both directions.
  • a drive in 1 plane but transmits both directions.

Can somebody explain to me how a worm drive dives in 2 planes and a single direction? I believe it is 1 plane with 2 directions I.e. forwards nd reverse in the same plane

akfe: I thinking that worm can move in 2 directions, so the wheel also can move clockwise and anticlockwise.

Wouldn't C be correct as 'electrochemical' corrosion requires a anode and a cathode, where as a 'chemical' corrosion being oxidation would be moisture on the surface of the metal? Please help? Thanks.

the correct answer is 40%-60%. This limiting stress is called the Fatigue Limit and for steels, the fatigue limit is generally in the region of 40% to 60% of the value of the static ultimate tensile strength (UTS). Extracted from KLM UK Engineering Notes for Module 6.

JD2016: I would say that most Engineering Materials Science textbooks would say that the Fatigue Limit for steels is approx half the UTS. That would fit the 40 to 60% answer best.

Excessive stress on fluid or pneumatic metal tubing caused by expansion and contraction due to temperature changes can best be avoided by

  • providing bends in the tubing.
  • avoiding long straight sections of tubing between fixed parts of the structure of the aircraft.
  • Both answers above are correct.

The answer should be 'providing bends in the tubing. Ref.:- page 114 of AC65-9A.
