If a sheet of aluminium alloy of 0.032 and 0.064 is to be joined together the rivet should be

  • 0.032 plus 2D.
  • 0.096 plus 1.5 D.
  • 0.064 plus 1D.

Explanation

Rivet grip length is the total thickness of the sheets being joined plus the allowance needed to form the shop head. Adding 0.032 and 0.064 gives 0.096 inch of combined thickness, and the standard head allowance is about 1.5 times the rivet diameter, so the rivet length is 0.096 plus 1.5D.
