What the Airbus A320 - NEO type training covers

The Airbus A320neo (New Engine Option) is a differences type — engineers and crews already rated on the A320 CEO convert by studying only what changed. This question bank reflects that: the airframe chapters concentrate on the differences versus the CEO (re-engining effects, sharklets, modified pylons and nacelles, system and indicating updates), while the powerplant is covered in full for each engine option.

The neo offers two very different engines: the CFM International LEAP-1A and the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan. Because their architecture, controls and indicating differ substantially, ATA 70–80 is split into separate per-engine chapters so you study the variant relevant to your fleet. Where an airframe difference is engine-specific the question makes the applicable engine explicit.

Use this for neo conversion training or recurrent checks.

Sample questions below are drawn live from the Airbus A320 - NEO question bank of 2 406 questions across 24 ATA chapters. The full timed practice quiz is per-chapter and needs an active subscription.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the A320 CEO and the A320neo type rating?
The A320neo is recognised by EASA as a differences type rather than a separate rating. Engineers already type-rated on the A320 CEO convert onto the neo by studying only what changed: the re-engining (LEAP-1A or PW1100G), the modified pylons and nacelles, sharklets, and the related system, fuel and indicating updates.
Do I need a current A320 CEO rating before the neo?
Yes — the differences course assumes you are already rated on the A320 CEO. Without that base rating you would do the full A320 type-rating course first. If you are not yet CEO-rated, study the A320 CEO question bank first.
Are LEAP-1A and PW1100G questions kept separate?
Yes. Powerplant ATA chapters (70 series) are split into per-engine sets — one full chapter group for the CFM LEAP-1A, another for the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G. Airframe-difference questions where the change is engine-specific (e.g. nacelle, indicating) flag the applicable engine in the stem.
Which ATA chapters changed for the neo?
The differences concentrate around the powerplant (ATA 70–80) and the systems most directly affected by the re-engining: pylon and nacelle (ATA 54/71), fuel (ATA 28), bleed and pneumatic (ATA 36), APU bleed routing (ATA 49), and engine indicating (ATA 77). Flight controls, autoflight and the bulk of the airframe are largely unchanged.
Are the questions written to the EASA Part-147 differences-course syllabus?
Yes — coverage follows the EASA-approved A320 CEO-to-neo differences course content for Category B1.1 and B2 maintenance personnel. The format mirrors the multiple-choice style of the type-rating theoretical exam.
Is this suitable for recurrent training as well as initial conversion?
Yes. The question bank works for both: initial conversion from the CEO and recurrent knowledge checks for engineers already neo-endorsed. Practice is timed and retake-friendly, and weak-area tracking surfaces topics worth revisiting.
