What is open assembly time?
- The time for which the mixed adhesive stays usable in the pot before it starts to gel.
- The time between the adhesive being applied to the joint surfaces and their assembly.
- The time elapsed from the adhesive being applied to the joint surfaces to them being clamped.

Open assembly time runs from spreading the adhesive on the joint surfaces to bringing those surfaces together. The period from assembly until pressure is applied is the closed assembly time, and the two added together make the total assembly time, so a definition that runs on to clamping is too long. The time for which mixed adhesive stays usable in the pot is its pot life, which is a different limit.
