What moves the swash plate away from the minimum stroke position?

JD2016: All of these different kinds of fuel system are very complex and confusing! But the best guidance I can find is Page 113 of the Rolls Royce Jet Engine book. Figure 10-14 is a nice cut-away view of a swash-plate fuel pump and you can clearly see that the servo piston rod has a spring (actually 2 coaxial,concentric springs) pushing the piston and therefore the swashplate, towards the maximum delivery position (i.e. greatest swash plate angle) and away from minimum. Para. 87 on Page 114 says: " The stroke of the plungers is determined by the angle of inclination of the camplate. The degree of inclination is varied by the movement of a servo piston that is mechanically linked to the camplate and IS BIASED BY SPRINGS TO GIVE THE FULL STROKE POSITION OF THE PLUNGERS."

Debate: Does velocity (dynamic pressure) drop across the whole turbine section? Obviously V increases as it passes through the nozzle guide vanes (convergent) but after passing through each turbine stage the velocity overall will decrease.?

avionics: please do not forget that the design of the turbine section area is a wholly a divergent per se

If the bypass ratio is 0.7:1, the 0.7 pounds of air is

  • fed into H.P compressor compared to 1 pound fed around it.
  • fed around the engine to 1 pound fed into H.P. compressor.
  • bypassed for every 1 pound at the intake.

arslan1995: The Bypass ratio of an engine is the ratio between the mass flow rate of air (70%-80% of Air)that is drawn into the engine fan bypassing (Going around) the engine core to the mass flow rate (20%-30% of Air) that is passing through the engine core; the compressor and combustion chamber.

As I know SFC decreases with altitude.

Shawez: As per what i know, SFC will increase with altitude since its the amount of thrust per pounds of fuel used per hour, since at high altitude the density of air is less, more fuel must be burnt to compensate this decrease in density to produce that same amount of thrust at sea level,hence resulting in an increase in SFC.

I thought the answer for this is HP cock. Closing the LP cock would cavitate the HP pump everytime you shut down.

Eagle-Jan: ? I thought its switched off by the fuel shut off switch who controls the feul fire shutoff VLV. So basically the engine stops by fuel starvation. Would want to get to cocky about it... or are we talking other engines than pylon mounted gas turbines?
