If the bypass ratio is 0.7:1, the 0.7 pounds of air is

  • fed into H.P compressor compared to 1 pound fed around it.
  • fed around the engine to 1 pound fed into H.P. compressor.
  • bypassed for every 1 pound at the intake.

Explanation from PART66Online

Bypass ratio is the mass of cold air ducted around the core compared with the mass passing through it. At a ratio of 0.7:1, for every 1 pound entering the HP compressor core, 0.7 pounds is fed around the engine as bypass flow.

The Bypass ratio of an engine is the ratio between the mass flow rate of air (70%-80% of Air)that is drawn into the engine fan bypassing (Going around) the engine core to the mass flow rate (20%-30% of Air) that is passing through the engine core; the compressor and combustion chamber.
