Module 15. Gas turbine engine

Two basic types of turbine blades are

  • impulse and vector.
  • reaction and impulse.
  • tangential and reaction.

Explanation

The two basic principles of turbine blading are impulse, where the gas changes direction at constant passage area with no pressure drop across the rotor, and reaction, where the gas expands and accelerates through convergent blade passages to generate a reactive force. Most blades combine the two, but reaction and impulse are the basic types; vector and tangential are not.
