Stress-rupture cracks from sustained high temperature and centrifugal load typically appear on a turbine blade as fine cracks running across the leading or trailing edge, at right angles to that edge. Recognising this characteristic orientation distinguishes genuine stress-rupture damage from surface marks and helps reject blades before failure progresses.

No, the blade root is the inner part of the blade where it connects to the "center".
