Module 15. Gas turbine engine

Allowable damage on the first stage compressor blade is restricted to

  • middle third of the blade to the outer edge.
  • outer third of the blade to the outer edge.
  • root end of the blade.

Explanation

Blending of first-stage compressor blade damage is permitted only in the lower-stress region from the middle third out to the tip, where bending and centrifugal loads are lowest. Damage nearer the root is not blendable because that area carries the highest stress and any defect there risks fatigue failure.

adrian.necula asking:

Allowable damage on the first stage compressor blade is restricted to root end of the blade.
Am I right?

No, the root of the blade carries the load of the rest of the blade. Damage is not allowed.

Oh I'm sorry, that is not correct...no blending in the root of the blade.

Is this chord wise or length wise ( radially)?
