To replace one 1/8 inch rivet

  • three 1/16 inch rivets would be required.
  • two 1/16 inch rivets would be required.
  • four 1/16 inch rivets would be required.

Explanation from PART66Online

Replacement rivets must restore the cross-sectional shear area of the original. A 1/8 inch rivet has twice the diameter of a 1/16 inch rivet, and area scales with the square of diameter, so its area is four times greater. Four 1/16 inch rivets are therefore needed to equal the shear area of one 1/8 inch rivet.
