Module 15. Gas turbine engine

What is the purpose of the flow divider in a turbine engine duplex fuel nozzle?

  • Allows an alternate flow of fuel if the primary flow clogs or is restricted.
  • Provides a flow path for bleed air which aids in the atomization of fuel.
  • Creates the primary and secondary fuel supplies.

Explanation

The flow divider in a duplex nozzle splits the incoming fuel into a primary supply for starting and low flows and a secondary supply that adds in as pressure rises. By creating these two separate fuel paths it maintains good atomisation throughout the range. It is not an alternate path for a blocked line, nor a route for bleed air.
