What Subcategory B1.E covers
Subcategory B1.E permits release to service on aeroplanes with an electric power plant and a maximum take-off mass below 5 700 kg. It was created by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/111 and applies from 13 February 2026. B1.E is the only licence category that sits Module 18 (Electric Power Plant), which replaces the gas-turbine and piston-engine modules; a holder of a B1.1 or B1.2 licence extends to B1.E by passing Module 18 alone.

The Subcategory B1.E exam
A Subcategory B1.E candidate must pass 13 of the 18 basic-knowledge modules.
Each module is examined by multiple-choice questions with a 75% pass mark (Module 7 also carries an essay). The number of questions and the time allowed vary by module and category.
