What Category B2 covers

Category B2 (avionics) permits release to service following maintenance on avionic and electrical systems, and on electrical and avionics tasks within powerplant and mechanical systems requiring only simple tests.

The Category B2 exam

A Category B2 candidate must pass 12 of the 17 basic-knowledge modules.

Each module is examined by multiple-choice questions with a 75% pass mark (Module 7 also carries an essay). The number of questions and the time allowed vary by module and category.

Frequently asked questions

How many modules do I need for a B2 licence?
A Category B2 (avionics) licence requires 12 modules: 1 to 10 plus Module 13 (Aircraft Aerodynamics, Structures and Systems) and Module 14 (Propulsion). The airframe and engine modules 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17 do not apply.
Does B2 need Module 4?
Yes. Module 4 (Electronics Fundamentals) applies to Category B2, unlike plain Category A.
