Given that 1 cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 lbs and the specific gravity of fuel is 0.81, what is the weight of 10 cubic foot of fuel?

how to solve its?

avionics: 1 cubic foot of water = 62.4 lbws 1cubic foot of fuel = x lbs 10 cubic foot of fuel = 10x lbs density of water = m/V = 62.4lbs/1 cubic foot of water. density of fuel = x /1 cubic foot of fuel , but since we want to know what is mass for a 10 cubic of fuel density of fuel = 10x / 10 cubic foot of fuel we know s.g = density of fuel/density of water hence s.g = (10x/10)/(62.4/1) = 0.81 10x = 0.81*62.4*10 = 505.4 = weigh of 10cubic foot of fuel

Will it not change direction too?

JD2016: I have to correct myself! The speed of light IN A VACUUM is a universal constant and doesn't change but it does change speed in different media. So the correct answer is it changes direction due to the change in speed and the light ray is bent towrds the normal when travelling from air into a denser medium.

In a jack with a ram only on one side and hydraulic fluid applied from both sides

  • the ram will remain stationary, since equal hydraulic fluid pressures cancel on both sides of it.
  • the ram will move away from the side where the ram is due to pressure on differential areas.
  • the ram will move to the side where the ram is, due to pressure acting on differential areas.

surly if the ram takes up say 2 sq in and the jack piston has area of say 6 sq in, the piston minus ram area will be 4 sq in. Giving an overall advantage to the bare piston face equivelent to 2 sq in (the area of the ram) with equal pressure there is a net unbalanced force onthe bare piston face thus pushing it to the side were the ram is. Please explain how this is wrong?

PART66Online: No, sepehr, you are not correct. Why pressure should be different if it is applied in the same time from one source to both sides of piston? Force will be not equal as per formula you provided and this is the reason why piston will move to ram side.

A ram has a piston with 2 in2. Another ram with a piston of 4 in2 will provide

  • double the force.

Hi, I could do with some help on this question. I have not see this method of specifying a ram and piston combination. What is the difference between a "2 in2" and a "4 in2" piston, are the designations relating to piston and rod diameter? Thanks, Graeme.
