Module 2. Physics

A drive shaft has a speed 150pi radians a second. What is the speed in RPM?

  • 4500.
  • 9000.
  • 1500.

Explanation

To convert from rad/s to RPM, multiply by 60 / (2 pi). So 150 pi x 60 / (2 pi) = 150 x 30 = 4500 RPM. Each revolution is 2 pi radians, and there are 60 seconds in a minute.

150pi radians per second equals 9000pi radians per minute.
1 revolution equals 2pi radians, so 9000pi radians should be devided by 2 to get RPM.
