Module 3. Electrical fundamentals

To supply a 24volt output with a transformer with a 5:1 turns ratio, the input required is

  • 4.8
  • 24V.
  • 120V.

Explanation

A 5:1 step-down ratio means the input is five times the output, so to supply 24 V the primary needs 5 x 24 = 120 V. The 4.8 figure divides instead of multiplying, and 24 V would imply a 1:1 ratio with no transformation at all.

The ratio is 5:1, therefore you need an input which is 5 times greater than the output. Thus, the correct answer is 120v because 120v= 5*24
