The correct option is B. Current transformer cores are constructed from thin laminated silicon-steel sheets in order to minimise eddy current losses while retaining the high permeability required for accurate ratio reproduction. Solid steel exhibits excessive eddy current heating, and an air core would not provide sufficient magnetic coupling for a metering CT, per Module 3.15 transformers.
