Module 3. Electrical fundamentals

If the phase voltage in a star connected generator is 200V what will be the line voltage?

  • 115V.
  • 346V.
  • 200V.

Explanation

In a star connection the line voltage is the square root of three times the phase voltage. With a phase voltage of 200 V, the line voltage is 1.732 x 200 = 346 V. The 200 V option would apply only to a delta connection, where line and phase voltages are equal.

How?

line voltage = phase voltage * square root of 3, so 200*1,7=346
