Most current-carrying electrical devices use metallic conductors with a positive temperature coefficient, so a rise in operating temperature increases their resistance. For a fixed applied voltage, higher resistance means, by Ohm's law, a lower current.

Most conductors have a positive temperature coefficient. The exceptions are semiconductors.
