On a pre-preg composite

  • life can be extended by 12 months if stored above 40 degreesC
  • life can be extended by 12 months if stored below 10 degreesC
  • no life extension is allowed, it must be used immediately.

Explanation from PART66Online

Pre-preg material is supplied frozen because its resin is partially cured and continues to advance at room temperature; storing it cold (typically in a freezer, well below 10 degrees C) arrests that reaction and extends its usable life by up to about 12 months. Warm storage would shorten, not extend, its life, so the cold-storage extension is correct.

Any body out there??
Answer regarding storage above 40 degree Celsius seems absurd, i don't have in depth knowledge about the subject but i searched on the web concerning this question. Below are two web links which helped me get convinced that to extend the life of pre preg composite it needs to be stored in low temperature.

oops, but can you kindly post a reference where it says below 10°C for 12 months. i only came across information which says pre pregs are stored in frozen state.

I don't have any reference but it is logically. I have some little experience with composites and I know what high temperatures speeds up resin curing process. So answer above 40C is wrong. Also I want to add what pre-pregs are cured in autoclaves under high pressure and high temperature.
