Module 15. Gas turbine engine

Reheat is the term used to describe

  • adding fuel in the exhaust section.
  • adding of fuel in the turbine section.
  • adding of fuel in the compressor section.

Explanation

Reheat (afterburning) means injecting and burning additional fuel in the exhaust/jet-pipe section downstream of the turbine, using the oxygen still present in the gas stream to raise exhaust temperature and velocity. Fuel added in the compressor or turbine section would not constitute reheat.

malowth asking:

By reheat do you mean afterburner?
