Module 15. Gas turbine engine

Following the reports of a heavy landing you would

  • carry out a complete visual examination of the power plant.
  • examine the engine mountings and borescope the nozzle guide vanes and turbine.
  • examine the engine mountings and fuse pins.

Explanation

A reported heavy landing first calls for a complete visual examination of the whole powerplant to find any obvious distortion or damage before deciding on deeper checks. Going straight to borescope or fuse-pin inspection skips the initial overall assessment the maintenance manual requires.

Jordi asking:

why not the mountings?

because mountings are only a part of the engine, and power plant inspection is the complete answer.
