Bonding conductors are sized by the duty they must survive. A primary conductor has to carry a lightning discharge and is far larger; a secondary conductor handles only static dissipation, potential equalisation and screening returns. A secondary copper conductor is not less than about 1 square millimetre in cross-section, and where a single wire is used its size is not less than 18 gauge. 22 gauge is a smaller conductor than the standard allows, and 0.5 mm is not the figure specified.
