Following a major defect the C of A
- is not affected, however may run out on a time basis.
- will be invalidated and requires a full renewal survey before flight.
- Nothing will happen and the C of A remains fully valid.
Explanation
A major defect does not of itself invalidate the Certificate of Airworthiness; the aircraft is simply not airworthy until properly repaired and released to service, while the C of A continues on its normal time-based validity. The C of A is not automatically cancelled requiring a full renewal survey, nor does nothing at all need doing. It remains valid but still expires on its time basis.
