Once a person has been disconnected from the source of an electrical shock the next step should be

  • seek medical assistance from qualified personnel immediately.
  • check for breathing start AR if necessary.
  • check for a pulse and start cardiac massage if necessary.

Once the casualty is isolated from the electrical source, the immediate priority is to check the airway and breathing and begin artificial respiration if they are not breathing, following the basic resuscitation sequence. Restoring breathing takes precedence over leaving to summon help, which is done in parallel.
