Module 7. Maintenance practices

On a pre flight check you notice an instrument glass is cracked. You should

  • record it in the tech log.
  • check MEL.
  • inform the flight crew.

Explanation

On finding a defect such as a cracked instrument glass at preflight, the engineer first refers to the Minimum Equipment List to establish whether the item is required for dispatch and what conditions apply. Recording in the tech log and informing the crew follow, but the dispatch decision is governed by what the MEL allows.
