Explanation

The intermediate gearbox in a tail-rotor drive train uses bevel gears to turn the drive shaft through the angle change up the tail boom toward the tail-rotor gearbox. It is a direction-changing unit rather than an epicyclic reduction stage, which is the type used in the high-reduction main rotor gearbox.

I agree. It is a bevel gearbox. I have worked on aircraft with 1:1 ratio IGB's.

the intermediate gearbox(45 degrees) is a bevel one.
