How is the next database on the FMC activated?
- Manually on the ground.
- Automatically by due date.
- Manually in the air.
Explanation from PART66Online
A new navigation database cycle is loaded in advance alongside the current one, but it only becomes active when it is manually selected, and that changeover is made on the ground before flight. Changing the active database in the air could alter the flight plan and procedures already in use, so it is not done airborne, and the new cycle does not take over by itself on its due date.

Verbally I did ask a friends who work with large airliners, FMC database can only be activated on the ground.
Need to verify if FMC database activation in flight is a helicopter thing or is the answer not accurate?
