A passive sensor
- does not require power.
- requires dc excitation.
- requires ac power input.
Explanation from PART66Online
A passive sensor generates its own output signal from the measured quantity and needs no external excitation supply, for example a thermocouple or piezoelectric device. An active sensor, by contrast, requires a dc or ac excitation to operate.
