A fire engine is approaching you with its siren on. As it passes you its pitch
- increases.
- stays the same.
- decreases.
Explanation
This is the Doppler effect. While the siren approaches, the waves are compressed and the pitch is higher; the moment it passes and recedes the waves are stretched, so the perceived pitch drops. The frequency therefore decreases as the fire engine moves away from you.
