Module 13. Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems

If one FMS fails in a dual system

  • system operation will not be affected
  • FMS CDU on fail side goes blank
  • FMS display transfers automatically from serviceable computer

Explanation

In a dual FMS the two computers each drive their own Control Display Unit, so if one computer fails the CDU on the failed side goes blank while the serviceable side keeps working. The display does not transfer automatically to the good computer, and operation is not wholly unaffected.

Correct answer is 3. If one FMS fails, CDU automatically uses the opposite FMS.

no this is correct,it doesnt talk about the computer but the whole system which is called FMS.So the CDU on the failed FMS will of course be blank.
