Which type crack can be detected by magnetic particle inspection using either circular or longitudinal magnetisation?
- 45degrees.
- longitudinal.
- transverse.
Explanation from PART66Online
Each magnetisation direction best reveals defects lying across its flux: circular field finds longitudinal cracks, longitudinal field finds transverse cracks. A crack at 45 degrees presents a component across both fields, so it produces a usable indication under either method, whereas a purely longitudinal or transverse crack is reliably found by only one of them.
