The specific torque loading for a bolt is 50 lbs.ins but an extension of 2 is needed to reach the bolt in addition to the 8 torque wrench. What will the actual reading?

  • 40 lb.ins.
  • 54 lb.ins.

When an extension lengthens the wrench, the dial reading is the specified torque multiplied by the wrench length divided by the total length. That is 50 x 8/(8+2) = 50 x 8/10 = 40 lb.ins.

New torque reading = desired torque x L / (x + L)
So 50 x 8 / (2 + 8) = 40 lb.ins.
