Module 1. Mathematics

Find the curved surface area of a cylinder diameter 20cm and length 10cm.

  • 400 cm^2
  • 628 cm^2
  • 200 cm^2

Explanation

The curved (lateral) surface area of a cylinder is pi * diameter * length, equivalent to 2*pi*r*length. Here that is pi * 20 * 10, which is about 628 square centimetres. The 200 and 400 answers omit the factor of pi.

Surface area of cylinder is equal to circumference moltiply by height. So C=2*pi*r=d*pi and eight is h, so Surface=2*pi*r*h=d*pi*h=20*3.14*10=628
