Module 1. Mathematics

If you bought a TV set worth 30 british pounds after getting 15% discount. How much discount did you get?

  • 5 british pounds
  • 15 british pounds
  • 35 british pounds

Explanation

The 30 pounds is the price after a 15% discount, so it represents 85% of the original price. The original was 30 / 0.85 = about 35.29 pounds, making the discount roughly 5.29, which rounds to 5 pounds. The 15-pound answer wrongly treats 15% as 15 pounds.

Ricky.molte asking:

Someone could explain this please ?

An easy way to do that is :
15% of 30 = 30% of 15 ;
15 / 3 = 5
:)) good luck

30/.85 = 35 original price, 35-30=5 discount given

All these answers are wrong.
If a TV is $35 and you get a 15% discount you will $29.75
So the question is flawed.
