An aluminium alloy bolt may be identified by

  • its colour (dyed black).
  • the letter A stamped on the head.
  • its colour (dyed green).

Explanation

Aluminium-alloy bolts are anodised and dyed green for ready recognition, warning that they have lower strength and must not be substituted for steel bolts in highly stressed joints. They are not stamped with a letter A, and the green dye, not black, is the standard identifier.
