When installing multiple batteries on aircraft they are connected in

  • parallel
  • series
  • either parallel or series and switched between as an option

Explanation from PART66Online

Multiple aircraft batteries may be arranged either in parallel, to combine capacity at the system voltage, or in series, to obtain a higher voltage, with switching used to select the configuration for normal supply or for engine starting. The installation therefore allows either connection depending on the operational requirement.
