Module 11. Aeroplane aerodynamics, structures and systems

When resetting the CSD on the ground, the engine should be

  • rotating at idle.
  • stationary.
  • rotating at Nsync.

Explanation

A constant-speed drive is reset by manually re-engaging its disconnect mechanism, which can only be done with the engine stopped. With the engine rotating the input shaft is turning, so the reset coupling cannot be re-latched and attempting it risks damage. Resetting is therefore a stationary, engine-off maintenance task.
