The area of a trapezium is the average of the two parallel sides multiplied by the perpendicular distance between them: A = (5 + 7) / 2 x 4 = 6 x 4 = 24 cm^2. The 4.5 cm side slopes, so it is not the height; using it gives the wrong answer of 6 x 4.5 = 27 cm^2. The area can be calculated, because both parallel sides and the height are given.

The formula for the trapezium area is (B+b)*h all divided by two. So it results as: (5+7)*4= 48 ; 48/2= 24
