A lever of length 105 cm is used with a fulcrum placed 15 cm from the end bearing the load. Its mechanical advantage is

  • 9.
  • 7.
  • 6.

Explanation from PART66Online

Mechanical advantage of a lever is the effort arm divided by the load arm. With the fulcrum 15 cm from the load, the load arm is 15 cm and the effort arm is 105 - 15 = 90 cm. So MA = 90 / 15 = 6.

The TOTAL length is 105 cm, so the input end is 90 cms. 90/15 = 6

Length of leverage behind pivoting point is 105 - 15 = 90
So advantage is 90 / 15 = 6.

Question like this clearly needs a figure for clarification. Because you can easily assume that total length of lever is 120cm and calculate 105/15=7
