Module 2. Physics

Two Vectors are at 90 degrees to each other having magnitudes of 3N and 4N. The resultant is

  • 5N.
  • 1N.
  • 7N.

Explanation

When two forces act at 90 degrees the resultant is found by Pythagoras: R = the square root of (3^2 + 4^2) = the square root of 25 = 5 N. Simply adding (7 N) or subtracting (1 N) the magnitudes only applies when the vectors are parallel, not perpendicular.
