A scavenge filter is incorporated in a gas turbine lubrication system to

  • protect the scavenge pump.
  • protect the oil cooler.
  • protect the pressure pump.

Explanation from PART66Online

Scavenge oil returns from the bearing chambers carrying any debris before passing back to the tank and then to the pressure pump. The scavenge filter removes this debris so that the pressure pump and the bearing feed jets are protected from contamination.

The function of the scavenge filter is to protect the scavenge pump as the filter is situated before scavenge pump.
