Module 3. Electrical fundamentals

The total current flowing in a circuit of 200 lamps in parallel, each of a resistance of 400 ohm and connected across an input of 100 volts is

  • 25 amps.
  • 50 amps.
  • 40 amps.

Explanation

Each lamp draws I = V / R = 100 / 400 = 0.25 A. In parallel all 200 lamps share the same 100 V, so the total current is 200 x 0.25 = 50 A.

I = U / R
Total R = 400 / 200 = 2
So I = 100 / 2 = 50
