Module 3. Electrical fundamentals

A 24V battery has an internal resistance of 1 ohm. When connected to a load, 12 amps flows. The value of the load is

  • 12 ohms.
  • 1/2 ohm.
  • 1 ohm.

Explanation

The total circuit resistance is V / I = 24 V / 12 A = 2 ohms. Subtracting the 1-ohm internal resistance leaves the load at 2 - 1 = 1 ohm, since the internal and load resistances are in series.

Total R = V/I = 24/12 = 2 ohms.
Subtract the internal resistance to get the external resistance (i.e. the load).
