Module 3. Electrical fundamentals

What is the current in the circuit with a resistance of 8 ohms, inductive reactance of 12 ohms, capacitive reactance of 18 ohms with 20 volts applied across it?

  • 10 amps.
  • 1 amp.
  • 2 amps.

Explanation

Impedance is Z = square root of (R squared plus (XL minus XC) squared) = square root of (8 squared plus (12 minus 18) squared) = square root of (64 plus 36) = 10 ohms. The current is then I = V / Z = 20 / 10 = 2 amps.

kufu asking:

Can anyone explain me this one...?

doing xl-xc u'll find the Xtot
doing square root of(R^2+X^2) u'll find the impedance
doing V/R u'll find the current

chiaro:)
