Before fitting a Printed Circuit Board you should check the
- resistance between skin and strap end plug is less than 10 megohms.
- resistance between skin and strap end plug is more than 1 megohms.
- resistance between strap and strap end plug is less than 1 megohms.
Explanation
Before handling a board the wrist strap continuity must be verified, checking that the resistance between the strap and its end plug is low, less than 1 megohm, so static can drain away through the cord. A high resistance would mean the cord is broken and the strap is not effectively grounded.
