Electrostatic discharge occurs when

  • materials of similar composition are physically separated from one another.
  • materials of the same potential are placed into direct contact with each other.
  • materials of different potential are brought in close proximity to each other.

Explanation

Electrostatic discharge is the sudden transfer of charge when two objects at different electrical potentials are brought together or close enough for the field to break down the gap. Items at the same potential have no driving voltage to discharge, and separating similar materials is the triboelectric charging mechanism, not the discharge event itself.

No it isn't, discharge occurs when it's difference in electric charge(potential) and then appear flow from bigger to lower potential (discharge) it is called also electricity, dude that is basic knowledge how we have electricity in house and why there lighting storms xd
