What is the principle of an O2 generator?

  • Sodium chlorate and iron mixed by an electronic detonator.
  • Sodium chlorate and iron using a mechanical detonator producing O2 when mixed with air.
  • Sodium chloride and iron mixed by an electronic detonator.

Explanation from PART66Online

A chemical oxygen generator burns a sodium chlorate and iron core, ignited by a mechanical (percussion) firing pin when the mask lanyard is pulled, and the exothermic reaction releases breathing oxygen. The fill is chlorate (not chloride) and the initiator is mechanical, not electronic.
