Module 8. Basic aerodynamics

In a bank, the weight is

  • increased.
  • decreased.
  • unchanged.

Explanation

Weight is the force of gravity on the aircraft's mass and does not change with attitude. In a bank the apparent or effective load (load factor) increases because more lift is needed, but the actual weight stays the same. It is the required lift, not the weight, that rises in a turn.

Why?

Due to g effect

But it is resultant of centrifugal force and weight, not really weight itself. Weight remains the same. Force opposing total lift increases. This is one of many trick questions...
