Module 8. Basic aerodynamics

After a disturbance in pitch, an aircraft continues to oscillate at constant amplitude. It is

  • longitudinally statically unstable.
  • longitudinally neutrally stable.
  • laterally dynamically unstable.

Explanation

An oscillation that continues at constant amplitude, neither damping out nor diverging, is the definition of neutral dynamic stability. As the disturbance was in pitch, the aircraft is longitudinally neutrally (dynamically) stable. A damped oscillation would indicate dynamic stability and a growing one dynamic instability.

Why not? :) What exactly you don't understand? You have to read about aircraft stability, it is very simple topic. Check any PART66 Mod.8 book.
